Graduated from the Faculty of Law of Masaryk’s University in Brno in 1985 (former University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně) and the Faculty of Journalism of Charles University in Prague in 1985.

Career
At first he worked at the Centre for International Legal Protection of Children in Brno and later at the Constitutional Court of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republics (advisor to the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court and the Director of the Legal Informatics Division). Concurrently, he was teaching international private law at the Faculty of Law of Masaryk’s University. In the first half of the nineties he held the post of Chief Director of the Legal and Consular Section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the CZ (his responsibilities covered mainly the international legal aspects of dividing Czechoslovakia and subsequent succession of the Czech Republic  into the international legal obligations and membership in international organisations).
In 2004 – 2007 he worked in the position of Deputy Minster of Justice of the Czech Republic, responsible for legislation, international relations, issues of the European Union and the Office of the Government Agent of the Czech Republic for representing the CZ before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. He successfully defended a number of presented bills, e.g. the Insolvency Bill and amendments concerning the criminal and civil law, in the Government Legislative Council as well as before the committees of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Czech Parliament.
JUDr. Roman Polášek represented the Czech Republic at sessions of the European Union bodies including meetings of the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council. He took an active part in a number of international legal conferences (e.g. UN Global Forum in Brazil and the 11th International Conference of the UN in Bangkok) and was honoured with awards by the Ministers of Justice of Italy, Ireland, Mexico and Bulgaria.

Moreover, he was a member of the Czech Government Council for Human Rights and for National Minorities, the Judicial Academy Council and the State Election Committee.

In his legal practice he is predominantly involved in cases with foreign (cross-border) elements, international arbitrations and international tribunals in the field of private or public law. Furthermore, he is also engaged in company and insolvency law.

Other activities
JUDr. Roman Polášek has been in the register of lawyers kept by the Czech Bar Association under File No. 2726 since 1992. In the same year he was appointed a court expert in the field of legal relations towards foreign countries with the specialisation in international company, private and family law, by the Minister of Justice. 

Publishing activities
He has written several specialised legal publications, e.g. he is the author of the monographs - “On International Legal Aspects of Entering into Marriage with a Foreign National” and “On the Legal Issues of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republics Division”.
